James Dick
James Dick is a speculative fiction author whose work explores power, legacy, and the cost of empire. Through character-driven stories of adventure and resistance, his writing examines what is taken, what is built, and what it means to reclaim both. His debut novel Seekers of the Fallen Stars follows three unlikely allies navigating a storm-wracked world shaped by theft, history, and rising forces they cannot ignore.
James Dick is a graduate of Seneca College’s Acting for Camera and Voice program and holds a BA in Media Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University. He discovered a love of writing at an early age through story-based video games such as BioWare’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Akella’s Pirates of the Caribbean.
His career began in 2020 with the publication of his literary satire story, “Paper Mite Revolution”, in Blank Spaces Magazine. Two years later, he got his professional break with the sale of his hard sci-fi novelette, “EDIE”, to Analog Science Fiction and Fact, a story which was critically acclaimed in Locus Magazine by electromagnetics engineer Karen Burnham (who also pointed out a truly embarrassing technical error in the book that will cause James to blush for the rest of this life). This was quickly followed by more sales to Analog, as well as appearances in Australian magazines and anthologies published by Improbable Press and Dark Dragon Publishing.
On December 28th, 2023, James began writing Seekers of the Fallen Stars, a love letter to his time playing the Sea Dogs pirate adventure games. What he thought would be a quick passion project sprawled into a whale-sized fantasy swashbuckler, with the potential for many more stories to be written in its world. At Christmastime, James dons pointy ears and works as Santa’s Elf, but is frequently mistaken for a Vulcan. He lives in Scarborough, ON.
